Planning everything at once
Organising the wedding and the honeymoon side by side regularly means the trip gets thrown together in the last week. By then the choice is gone, and what is left is whatever is still free.
Booking the most expensive category
More expensive is not automatically better. In many houses the second-best category is the smarter choice, because it has the same position and the same view, and the premium buys nothing but square metres.
Letting the wedding date set the travel date
The month straight after the wedding is often the weakest weather of the entire year. Moving it by a few months changes both conditions and price considerably, and nobody says the trip has to follow immediately.
Mentioning it is your honeymoon only on arrival
At the desk on the day is too late. What a house grants is usually decided beforehand, and in writing.

The occasion put on record beforehand
I tell the hotel in writing that you are on your honeymoon and ask specifically what comes with that. Some houses give an upgrade subject to availability, a dinner, or something in the room. I promise none of it in advance, and nobody should. Unasked, though, you never get it at all.
Arrival and departure
After a wedding the first day of travel is rarely a good one. I arrange the journey so the hard part does not land on the first evening, and I do not plan the last day down to the minute.
Rest and variety in the right proportion
Two weeks in the same resort sounds idyllic in January and feels different from day six onwards. I ask about that before the booking, not after.

When you do not need me for this
If you already know the house and know which category you want, book it yourself. There my work costs money and changes nothing.
Likewise if the trip is meant to cost well under CHF 5,000. The fee then weighs too heavily, and the choice within that budget is small enough to make yourself.
And if you experience the planning as part of the anticipation and enjoy the searching: that is a good reason to do it yourself. I take the work off you, not the pleasure in it.
Lead time
When to get in touch
For high season and the sought-after houses, six to twelve months is realistic. Short notice works too, but then availability decides the choice rather than suitability.
One point that makes more difference than any hotel decision: if the wedding is in summer, it is worth deliberately putting the honeymoon in winter. The same money then buys a considerably more reliable trip, and the trip no longer sits in the shadow of the weeks before it.
